At present class 156 units are owned by two Rolling Stock Companies, Angel and Porterbrook, and are leased by four Train Operating Companies;
one Railway,
East Midlands Trains,
Northern Rail and
First ScotRail.
Northern Rail (46 units)

Northern gained additional class 158s during 2007, and Neville Hill (Leeds) lost its allocation of class 156s units in May, with the fleet now split between Heaton and Newton Heath depots.
The 158s took over on the Leeds - Settle - Carlisle route, and duties in East Yorkshire, whilst 156s gained more diagrams out of Liverpool Lime Street.
Two units appeared in the latest Northern Rail livery during 2007, but repaints for this class seems a low priority.
one-railway (9 units)
One Railway is to be renamed National Express East Anglia in 2008. By the end of 2007, eight of the units have had an internal refresh. Three units gained branding during 2007 to promote the community rail lines in East Anglia. 156407, promoting the 'Wherry Lines' seen here at Berney Arms on 25 July 2007.

East Midlands Trains (11 units) EMT is a new franchise operated by Stagecoach. It started in November 2007 and includes the eastern part of Central Trains. EMT plans to give its rolling stock an internal refurbishment in the coming years. 156.415 at Nottingham, 14 November 2007, with a service from Lincoln to Leicester. |
First ScotRail (48 units)
156.432 in SPT livery and 156.446 in First group livery stabled at Carlisle on August 5, 2007. The 20 units in First livery were given an internal refresh during 2007. |
