National Express adopted the controversial name 'one' for the new 'Greater Anglia' franchise launched on April 1, 2004. The 'one' identity was developed by Lawrence & Pierce (also reponsible for First livery).
The main colour of the livery is slate-blue, with a black window band and the vehicle ends feature bold 'rainbow stripes' of magenta, yellow, slate-blue, turquoise and pale-blue.
Initial repaints for the franchise launch were a darker colour with a metalic finish. Route brandings of 'Anglia', 'West Anglia' and 'Great Eastern' were applied to repaints before December 2004.
The first class 156 units to receive the livery were those having C6 overhauls at Doncaster Wabtec in the Spring of 2005.

The 'one' branding is applied at each end of the unit. Doors are painted turquoise, footsteps are yellow and the door button is highlighted with an orange square. On 156422 the door frames and hand rail recesses are painted in the main body colour. |

Rainbow stripes wrap around the corners of the end pannels. The inner ends are painted roof grey. Solebars are painted the same colour as the body, but are not cleaned by the carriage washers. Vehicle numbers are applied in white on the lower bodyside. |

Last painted 156407 has black handrails on the cab front. It is seen at Derby Road on an Ipswich - Felixstowe service on February 7, 2006. Since October 2005, one has applied labels to identify which car has disabled person's accomodation or bicycle space. The '52' car has a 'wheelchair' label above the secondman's cab window, and another above the handrail by the door. The '57' car has a 'bike' label by the doors only. Photo: Darren J. |

156416 'Saint Edmund' was the first to loose the rainbow stripes from it's one livery, after repairs at Crown Point depot on 20th February 2008.
