Description of ScotRail Railways Livery

The colourful livery of National Express operated ScotRail Railways' was devised by Glasgow based Randak Design Consultants.

This first train to receive the livery was class 158 unit 158.701 in late December 1998.

A simplified version of the livery was applied to 20 class 156 units at Railcare Glasgow between June and December 2000.

First to appear was 156.449 in mid June 2000.

156.496 at Stirling, 10 May 2001.

Base colour of the livery is white with a purple window band, a wide aquamarine green waist band and a terracotta red stripe along the top of the windows.

Roof, doors and the inner ends of the vehicles are purple, and the solebar (below the level of the door steps) is painted black.

156.478 arrives at Glasgow Central 17 Nov 2001.

The ScotRail logo is carried on the centre of each carriage.

On the left-side there is a white upsweep through all the colours, whilst the right side has only a break in the aquamarine band.

The bands of colour wrap onto the cab front.

The cab window frames are painted yellow, handrails white and light cluster are black.

Many of the ScotRail 156's received yellow gangway doors after repaint.

The emblem inherited on privatisation was updated with the new colours.

Vehicle 57462 suffered a damaged cabside panel, and returned to traffic with the replacement panel unpainted.

By 2003 it had lost its distinctive appearance.

 
156.467 at Glasgow Central, 05-Nov-04

When First Group took over the ScotRail franchise on 17th October, the previous emblem was quickly replaced.

Class 156 units in the former ScotRail livery received additional branding on the cab front.
