East Midlands Trains - 156 Super-Sprinter

The East Midlands Trains franchise, run by the Stagecoach Group, provides local rail services in the East Midlands of England, plus long distance services to London St Pancras, Liverpool and Norwich.

It was created in November 2007 from routes that had been operated by Midland Mainline and the eastern part of Central Trains.

East Midlands Trains leases 11 Class 156 units from Porterbrook.

These units were refurbished internally between 1995 and early 1998, around the time Central Trains was privatised.

156.415 arrives at Newark Castle 28 June 2008, with a service from Lincoln to Nottingham.

All 11 units EMT inherited carried Central Trains' green livery.

During April and May 2008 they were repainted in EMT's blue livery.

Allocation and Duties

NM Eastcroft, Nottingham 11 units

EMT's units are allocated to Eastcroft depot Nottingham, but may visit Neville Hill depot in Leeds for heavier maintenance, until a depot extension at Derby Etches park is completed.

The class 156 units are deployed on secondary services, alongside class 153 and 158 units.

Typical duties include Leicester - Lincoln, Nottingham - Skegness, and Nottingham - Worksop.

However they may deputise for class 158 units on longer distance runs such as the Liverpool - Norwich route.
